Building a Redundant SMPTE 2110 Media Network: Compact Solutions with Cisco Nexus
For a small yet robust SMPTE 2110-compliant media network, the Cisco Nexus 3548P-10GX or newer models from the Nexus 9300 series can be deployed in a redundant architecture. Here's a compact design:
Switch Pairing for Redundancy:Deploy two Nexus switches (e.g., N3K-C3548P-10GX or N9K-C93180YC-FX3) in a leaf-spine topology or as a dual-leaf solution for high availability.
PTP Master and Backup:Use Precision Time Protocol (PTP) with one switch as the primary master and the second as a backup for synchronization across devices.
Redundant Media Endpoints:Connect media servers and endpoints (cameras, playout servers) to both switches using dual network interfaces, ensuring failover capability.
Multicast Optimization:Configure IGMP Snooping and PIM for efficient multicast traffic delivery of video, audio, and data streams.
Control and Management VLANs:Isolate management traffic in separate VLANs for better control and monitoring.
This solution offers a cost-effective, scalable, and redundant setup suitable for small studios, production environments, or OB vans. NSH specializes in deploying such systems; contact us for tailored solutions!
